How to create a YouTube channel

How to Create a YouTube Channel

With a Google account, you can watch videos, click “Like” and subscribe to channels. However, without a YouTube channel, you won’t have a public presence on YouTube. Even if you have a Google account, you need to create a YouTube channel to upload videos, add comments, or create playlists.

You can create a channel from the YouTube website or mobile site

How to Create a YouTube Channel

Follow these steps to create a channel that only you can manage using your Google account.

Sign in to YouTube from a computer or through the mobile site.

Click on your profile picture and then Create a Channel.

You will then be prompted to create a channel.

Verify the information (i.e. the name and photo used in your Google account), then confirm it to create your channel.

Create a channel under a business name or other name

Follow these steps to create a channel that can be managed by multiple admins or owners.

Create your own Google account:

With your Google account, you automatically have a personal YouTube account. But to use YouTube for business purposes, you need to create a brand account.

To do this, go to your YouTube account page, click Create a Channel, and enter a name for your Brand Account. That’s it!

When you create a YouTube Brand Account, you can give multiple people administrative access, customize the account name, and look to match your brand.

Another advantage of Brand Accounts is that they give you access to YouTube Analytics data, which provides valuable insights into who’s watching your videos and what content is most popular. (To learn more, check out our article on using YouTube for marketing.)

In your channel dashboard, click Customize. Then, navigate to the three tabs (Format, Brand, and General) to enter information that will help your channel get discovered more often.

If you want to use a name other than your Google Account name on YouTube, link your channel to a Brand Account. Learn more about Brand Accounts

Sign in to YouTube on a computer or through the mobile site.
Go to your channel list.
You can create a channel or use an existing Brand Account:
Create a channel by clicking Create a channel.
Create a YouTube channel for a brand account you already manage by selecting the brand account from the list. If this account is already associated with a channel, you cannot create a new account. When you select the brand account from the list, you will be redirected to that channel.
Provide all the information requested to name your channel. Then click Create. The brand account will be created.
To add a channel admin, follow the instructions for editing channel owners and admins.

Create amazing content for your channel

So there you have it, you’ve created some amazing content. Now? Here are some steps to take to get your videos out there, get first-time viewers, and plan how to grow your audience.

“I’ve been able to create a loyal community for myself through my authenticity and interactions with my subscribers in the comments. There’s nothing better than making your fans feel like family.”

Upload videos to YouTube Studio
Creator Studio is the go-to hub for content creators. This is where you’ll post content, add metadata, view analytics, receive messages from YouTube, and more. This is also where you can track your progress toward becoming eligible for the YouTube Partner Program (PPY).

Use the Studio mobile app to manage your channel on the go. It’s helpful to check your stats, respond to comments, and publish and manage your videos from your phone.

Once you’ve uploaded your videos, you can create playlists to guide viewers through your videos and get to know your channel. Sort by format, date published, and more. Tip: Playlists can also help with analytics along the way.

How to Create a YouTube Channel

When filling out this information, use relevant keywords that will help your account show up in searches.

These could be your channel’s topics, your industry, questions your content can answer, or products offered.

Under Branding, you’ll have the option to upload your channel’s logo and icons to give it a unique look. Ideally, this look should be consistent with your brand charter and help visually connect this YouTube account to your other social media platforms and web presence.

YouTube Analytics (YTA) shows the data behind your channel. This section can help you understand trends, see what’s working (and what’s not), and understand who’s watching your content so you can plan how to publish content in the future.
